This in turn allows the packing member to make contact with either one of several valley portions found on a flexible pipe, or with the outer peripheral surface of a metal pipe.
As the tightening nut is fastened, the support pieces of the escape-preventing ring are locked into place on one of the valley portions, supporting the outer periphery of the metal pipe, and thereby, preventing the escape of either pipe.
